About the Role:
Lead Spark’s Mobile App Experience Layer, owning the technical direction, quality, and delivery of customer-facing mobile journeys. Balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic thinking to shape scalable, high-performance mobile experiences. Partner with mobile engineers, designers, product, and platform teams to deliver consistent, secure, and reusable experience components across iOS and Android.
Champion modern mobile engineering practices—including React Native / native development, performance optimisation, accessibility, and design system adoption.
Day to day you will be involved in:
- Build strong engineering practices: Set clear standards and reusable patterns for the mobile experience layer across iOS and Android.
- Lead experience layer development: Design and build the Node.js experience layer that powers our mobile apps. Ensure it is secure, scalable, and reliable.
- Support and grow developers: Mentor engineers through regular code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
- Enable squad delivery: Work closely with designers, product owners, and architects during discovery and delivery. Help remove blockers and shape the right technical approach.
- Own technical direction and risk: Partner with the Chapter Lead to influence roadmap decisions, manage technical risk, and evolve the mobile platform.
- Drive quality and consistency: Promote good testing, clean code, and consistent engineering standards across all mobile squads.
What experience you'll bring?
Strong development skills in TypeScript and Node.js, with hands-on experience building REST-based experience layer services. Proven experience working closely with native mobile app developers and a solid understanding of the mobile app ecosystem. Experience with cross-platform technologies such as React Native is desirable, along with good exposure to Kubernetes, cloud deployments, and CI/CD pipelines.
