Who are we?
We are the Customer Integration Engineering team for Spark's Government and Enterprise group. We take care of the rollout of some of the largest infrastructure builds in the country, to help all New Zealand win big in a digital world.
We are extending our current DevOps and Infrastructure as Code practises into a set of scalable and reusable components that spans all parts of our operational realm.
You’ll immerse yourself in the automation for the rollout of some of the latest high tech networking and technology solutions as you engage with some of New Zealand’s largest companies.
What is the Role?
You’ll be a well-rounded DevOps engineer who has a penchant for Security and Networking and is looking to take yourself to the next level with Infrastructure as Code.
We are deploying new WAN technologies for our customers using leading edge vendors such as FortiNet and VMWare and we are wanting to extend our reach to the entire infrastructure stack including as switches, Wi-Fi and routers
As an automation expert you’ll take in information from Technical Leads, Solution Architects and Product Owners, as well as our customers, to ensure the integration and installation of our products is seamless.
You’ll be the go-to DevOps engineer for our team involved in a wide range of projects and will be responsible for continuous improvement opportunities.

Your responsibilities:
- Building on and developing a best of breed automation delivery system
- Work as part of many project teams
- Mentoring team members.
- Creating and maintaining documentation.
- Manage and track your workload and Integration activities
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Available to work within the operational hours of 8am-6pm, Monday-Friday and as requested afterhours.
Desired skills and experience:
Infrastructure as Code:
- Strong capability in Ansible scripting
- Strong understanding and application of automation architectures. ie using Docker, Jenkins
- Scripting languages such as Python or TCL.
- Markup language knowledge such as JSON, YAML
- experience in a DevOps role
- Ability to engineer and design solutions that are standardised and scalable.
- Professionalism and technical excellence.
- Excellent problem-solving/troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and intrapersonal skills.
- Ability to present solutions to both technical and non-technical customers and users
- Understanding of Agile and DevOps methodologies.
- Ability to influence those around you to deliver great outcomes.
- You will need the right to work full-time in New Zealand.
Desirable Network and security skills:
- experience with routing and switching.
- experience with Fortinet technologies.
Desirable Certification:
- CCNA or some basic networking
- Cisco DevNet
- Docker associate
